The Type 50 was the introduction of Bugatti's double over head cam straight-8, inspired by Harry Miller's design. Type 50 is virtually a Type 46 with this new engine. There existed two version of the Type 50 chassis: a long and a short wheelbase version. The long "touring" version was called Type 50T and had the same length as Type 46, while the "sport" version, Type 50, was 40cm shorter. Type 50 also had a slightly stronger engine, by utilizing a higher capacity supercharger. There were a total of 65 Type 50 chassis built in the period 1930-1933. In 1939 a Grand Prix racer was developed, designated Type 50B, but it has got its own page.
